Chamber of Commerce swears-in college entrepreneurs

CofC President Pablo Figueroa

Under the slogan “We’re all entrepreneurs,” 125 young people between the ages of 18 and 22, were sworn-in as members of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce through its College Chapters committee, in an activity held in San Juan.

By including a younger generation of entrepreneurs, the CofC seeks to spark an early interest and positive attitude to benefit the island’s economic well-being and social development.

Organized into eight chapters spread across the island, the new members enrolled in local colleges will be carrying out various activities, workshops and seminars where they can expand their network of contacts, gain exposure to the business world and develop their business ideas based on self-employment, the CofC said.

“It’s encouraging to see that in its 100 years, the CofC continues to be the ideal platform for young people to learn and take the path of entrepreneurship as the beginning of their professional development,” said trade group President Pablo Figueroa, while urging the group to continue integrating and familiarizing themselves with “the best practices of free enterprise, free markets and free competition.”

The CofC’s College Chapters — founded in 1999 by businessman and ex-CofC President Leonardo Cordero-Suriá — is a committee dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship among Puerto Rico college students.

During his initiation, CofC’s College Chapters President Paul E. González said “seeing the commitment of this great army of entrepreneurs fills me with pride, because I’m reaffirmed that Puerto Rico’s economic future is in our hands.”

“We can all be entrepreneurs and what better way to start on this path, than through the resources and tools provided by the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce. We can contribute to the economy and impact the community in an innovative and positive way,” he said.
