Supreme Court Chief Justice Federico González-Denton recently swore-in attorney Jorge Cañellas as the new president of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce, as well as its board members for 2013-2014, at an event that took place at the Conrad Condado Plaza Hotel.

The ceremony was attended by officials of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, as well as consuls, business leaders, former CofC presidents, industrial leaders, and Cañellas’ family. He is also a certified public accountant.

Following the oath, Hernández-Denton offered a special message that highlighted the relevance of this multisectoral organization to members of the centuries-old institution and Puerto Rico’s socio-economic development.

Meanwhile, Cañellas spoke of the five main pillars of his strategic plan, namely: help unify Puerto Rico through a common vision; help implement tactics that foster competitiveness; contribute to the business development of partner companies; stimulate an entrepreneurial culture in Puerto Rico, and develop an organizational structure at the CofC that would facilitate its mission and vision in favor of entrepreneurship, business growth and job creation.

“Everyone is obliged to comply with this transformation for the sake of Puerto Rico, the Chamber of Commerce and our socio-economic development,” he said.
