Claro, DISH join to offer bundled services in Puerto Rico

Claro and DISH Puerto Rico, the island’s largest telecommunications and pay-TV providers respectively, announced Tuesday that they have entered into a partnership to offer customers bundled services including DISH’s pay-TV and Claro’s Internet, wireless and telephone services, on a single bill.
Bundled services will be sold at select Claro and DISH retail locations islandwide beginning in mid-August.
“The alliance of these two powerhouse brands will expand the choices available to customers in Puerto Rico,” DISH president Joseph P. Clayton said.
The partnership will launch with a multi-faceted marketing campaign. Both companies will release more information — including consumer offerings — at that time.
This media outlet learned that this partnership has been several months in the making. In June, local Spanish-language technology website Tecnético.com informado that the companies had signed the agreement to add Dish Network to Claro’s service lineup.
“With this new partnership, we join Dish’s experience as a satellite provider with our telecommunications, entertainment and connectivity services. Claro is reaffirmed as leader in telecommunications and entertainment with the most extensive coverage in the island,” Claro President Enrique Ortiz de Montellano said.
The new service is not expected to affect the company’s current satellite television customer base, which it has served since April 2010. Furthermore, the partnership with DISH will not alter Claro’s Internet Protocol-based paid television service officially unveiled last month.
