More U.S. and foreign filming producers are shooting in Puerto Rico as a result of the incentives package and other benefits provided by the Commonwealth, as in the case of Crackle, Sony’s multi-platform entertainment network, which last week finished the second season of its original series, “Cleaners,” according to Demetrio Fernández, executive director of the Puerto Rico Film Commission.

“We are proud to include “Cleaners” among our growing portfolio of movie and television projects. The making of Cleaners [pumped] more than $2 million into our economy and hired 74 local technicians as part of the production crew,” Fernández said, adding local crew members provided technical support for casting, science fiction effects, camera, grip, construction, electric, set decoration, wardrobe, locations, among others.

Also, local talent was hired, such as actresses Laura Alemán, Sara Pastor, among others, he said.

Scenes were shot in ocean front La Perla neighborhood, Casablanca Museum in Old San Juan, Casa España building in Puerta de Tierra, Piñones community, Julio E. Monagas Park in Bayamón and a private home in Vista Mar neighborhood in Carolina.

“Puerto Rico’s popularity as a filming location for U.S. and foreign producers keeps growing. Our island offers highly experienced and bilingual technicians, artistic talent, wide variety of tropical landscape, modern infrastructure, full government support and other assets that provide a time and cost effective solution for any filming project,” Fernández said.

In 2013 the Puerto Rico Film Commission registered a total of 29 film projects under the Puerto Rico Production Tax Credit Program, pumping $53 million into local economy. During 2012 there were a total of 21 film projects representing $51.4 million, while 17 projects amounting $15 million were registered during 2011.
