Codetrotters Academy graduates 17 new tech pros
The second group of students graduated from the Codetrotters program last week.
Codetrotters Academy, the first programming school in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, announced Monday the graduation of 17 more students from its “Intro to Web Development” course, totaling 34 students that have graduated from the academy since it opened its doors last Fall.
Most of the students that have attended Codetrotters to date have not had previous technical backgrounds and in as little as 10 weeks are able to go from “zero to hero,” as the company’s CEO Sofia Stolberg said.
“We’re proud to continue graduating fresh new tech talent to supply the rising demand in the industry. These 17 graduates are ready to use their newly acquired skills to kick-start their own projects or switch professions as they seek to become a part of the island’s burgeoning tech and startup community,” Stolberg said.
At the graduation that took place April 28 at the Puerto Rico Science and Technology Trust, which has provided merit and need-based scholarships to students in the past, students presented their final projects to their families, industry professionals, and tech companies seeking talent.
“The presentations were varied and students developed all sorts of interesting projects, from web pages for local movies about to launch, to sites for foodies looking to access new recipes and catalogue their own, and we even had one student develop a video game from scratch using JavaScript,” said Codetrotters COO Denisse Rodríguez.
“Recruiters at the event were very impressed with the quality of the projects and we expect some of them to extend employment offers to our students,” she said.
