The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce will sponsor next month the “Puerto Rico Telecom Conference 2011: The New Future,” through which it seeks to give participants a chance to exchange ideas on telecommunications technologies, achieving greater Internet access, and how going online can help companies to grow, reach new markets, and innovate.

Local and international industry experts will present business opportunities that are emerging in Puerto Rico’s rapidly evolving telecom sector, during the Nov. 9 event to take place at the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza.

“The telecom industry isn’t just about phone calls anymore; it’s about devices, content, download speeds and Internet connections,” said Salvador Calaf, chairman of the CofC board of directors. “As the mobile transformation continues, all entrepreneurs and business leaders need to re-examine the bigger IT picture, creating the business processes and building the infrastructure needed to take more advantage of the economic opportunities that the digital world offers.”

“The CofC is organizing a conference in which industry leaders and policy makers come together to help us understand the implications of these changes for our economy, our businesses and our lifestyles,” said Calaf, while acknowledging that the isalnd’s telecom sector has been one of the most dynamic in the past few years, continuing to invest in infrastructure in spite of the economic downturn.

The adoption of more telecom devices in all types of businesses has contributed to increasing productivity among businesses of all sizes, said Calaf.

Senior and chief executives from telecom and technology firms, emerging leaders, and other experts will discuss recent trends such as: “Telecom Futures: Linking Everyone to Everything Around the World and Beyond;” “Puerto Rico in Obama’s Broadband Plan;”  “The IN-Cloud: Achieving Business Agility and Efficiency;” and “Entrepreneurship in Telecom and Emerging Business Opportunities.”
