Universidad del Este officials sign off on agreements with the government and private sector.

The Center for Empowerment and Free Enterprise at the Universidad del Este in Carolina signed several collaborative agreements with private-sector organizations, the government and communities, to spur job creation in Puerto Rico, college officials announced Wednesday.

The groups will work on developing initiatives to promote educational activities “focusing on improving human quality and entrepreneurial spirit among Puerto Rican communities,” University officials said.

The agreements will allow the Universidad del Este to refer students for job offers available through participating employers, before they graduate. That way, students will have a chance to compete for available slots. The university will also offer facilities where companies can conduct interview processes open to students.

The participating companies are: PSS Pathfinder Inc., Center for Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Medical Invoicers Association, the Puerto Rico Cartoonists Association, A Target Marketing, Data Works Consulting Group, Caribbean Temporary Services, Knowledge Power Group, Páginas Internet Puerto Rico, The Outlet, MSSS your Human Resources Specialists and the Labor Department’s Job Development Administration.

The government agency will direct non-traditional students to the school, such as displaced employees, who may be eligible to receive as much as $10,000 to pay for their studies. Meanwhile, the Carolina Municipal Government, through the Workforce Investment Act, will work with students and individuals who have not graduated high school, who will be able to participate in workshops and training sessions.
