Intellectual property rights experts from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Patents and Trademark Office will be in Puerto Rico on Feb. 25 to offer information on how local businesses can protect their intellectual property rights when they are exporting their product and services to the U.S. mainland and overseas markets.

The topics covered during the “STOPfakes.gov Road Show — How to Protect Your Intellectual Property Rights when Exporting” seminar will include: Obtaining and protecting intellectual property rights in the United States and globally; Best practices and common mistakes; remedies for counterfeiting, piracy, and trade secret theft; Law enforcement resources for intellectual property protection and enforcing intellectual property rights in the U.S. and abroad; and patents, trade secrets, and obtaining/maintaining trademarks and copyrights.

The event will be ideal for entrepreneurs, businesses, start-ups, innovators/inventors, venture capital firms, IP attorneys, creative industries, and the technology industry, agency officials said.

The experts will be available for one-on-one meetings with participants after the event, which will begin at 9 a.m. at the Inter American University’s main metro area campus (Senado Académico room). The cost is $65.
