Convention Bureau touts Puerto Rico’s ‘green’ ways

Now more than ever, meeting planners are seeking out convention locations that incorporate “green” practices into their day-to-day activities. In Puerto Rico, groups can be assured that meeting and hotel facilities make the grade, the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau said Wednesday.
Furthermore, the nonprofit organization said groups can enjoy a number of activities which help educate participants about conservation and the environment, all the while enjoying and exploring Puerto Rico’s natural wonders and great outdoors.
“Puerto Rico is dedicated to reducing waste and increasing sustainability in its tourism sector,” said PRCB President Milton Segarra. “Our initiatives demonstrate we understand ‘green’ tourism and meeting practices. Also, Puerto Rico offers visitors and delegates the opportunity to better understand the importance of preservation through one-of-a-kind group activities and experiences at a number of our distinct natural attractions.”
As the meetings and tourism industry continues to work together to develop and implement strategies to conserve energy and reduce waste, Puerto Rico’s hoteliers are also actively partaking in the cause, the PRCB said.
Puerto Rico’s tourism partners — including Tourism Company and a number of local and federal regulatory agencies — are playing a proactive role in reducing waste and consumption on the island. Furthermore, more than 20 small and large hotel properties in Puerto Rico are also implementing “green” practices in their guest rooms and operations to reduce their environmental footprints.
