Puerto Rico’s reconstruction momentum continues to accelerate, with more than 12,500 projects underway and thousands more already completed, according to the latest Quarterly Progress Report from the Central Office of Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency (COR3).
Executive Director Eduardo Soria-Rivera said the agency has sharpened its strategy since January, focusing on the priorities of municipalities, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.
“Every challenge we face is an opportunity to streamline processes and accelerate progress,” he said. “COR3’s continuous support has been key to ensuring that reconstruction moves forward without interruption.”
The report, which covers activity through June 30, shows 12,544 projects in progress with an estimated $16.8 billion investment funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
That represents 957 new projects since the previous report and an additional $766.2 million in funding.
The projects range from early design phases to active construction, addressing infrastructure damaged by seismic events and hurricanes Maria and Fiona, the agency noted.
Alongside ongoing work, 4,640 projects have been completed, valued at a little more than $1 billion. That includes 374 projects finalized during the reporting period, with an additional $107.9 million invested.
Notable projects include the rehabilitation of the San Juan Cathedral with a $10.7 million federal allocation, the $29 million rehabilitation of the Maunabo Diagnostic and Treatment Center, and the $29.2 million reconstruction of the Misión Cristiana Fuente de Agua Viva Church. The replacement of equipment at the Costa Sur Power Generation Plant in Guayanilla represents another $42.6 million in investment.
“These initiatives demonstrate the tangible impact of reconstruction efforts on communities, enhancing critical infrastructure and promoting long-term resilience,” Soria-Rivera said.
