P.R. to send 1st delegation to Havana International Fair

FIHAV LOGOPuerto Rico will be represented for the first time at the Havana International Fair, slated to take place on the neighboring island nation Oct. 31-Nov. 4, as a result of a effort between the Development and Commerce, the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company and the private sector, it was announced Thursday.

The Havana International Fair, held annually since 1983, brings together all sectors of the Cuban economy, more than 4,500 exhibitors from some 60 countries, and 150,000 visitors.

“This fair, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, that country’s Chamber of Commerce and PALCO Business Group, is one of the most representative multi-sectorial trade events,” said Economic Development and Commerce Secretary Alberto Bacó.

“The integration of efforts with Latin America within a vision of global entrepreneurship is certainly an area of new opportunities for our island within the economic situation we live. Cuba offers many possibilities for Puerto Rico,” he said, adding Puerto Rico will have a special designated area in the U.S. pavilion.

It is believed that there will be substantially greater participation this year due to the opening of the dialogue process initiated with the United States, which may represent a major attraction for local entrepreneurs.

Areas such as construction, renewable energy and tourism in its various aspects, are among those that have been described by the Cuban government as priorities in trade with the United States.

To draw participation in the event, Economic Development and Commerce will host an informative session on Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. at the agency’s Hato Rey headquarters. For more information, call (787) 486-2004 or send an email to [email protected].
