Dewey University recently recognized the achievements of 48 outstanding students from Puerto Rico’s public and private high schools, bestowing its “Medalla Superación” award for the sixth year in a row.

“The young people we honor today are role models in our society. Knowing their history and that their challenges were not an obstacle is worthy of admiration,” said Dewey University President Carlos A. Quiñones-Alfonso, describing the group of students who, despite their circumstances, made it to 12th grade and graduated.

The activity was held at Dewey University’s Carolina Campus, highlighting the perseverance of the selected students, who have achieved their goal despite health, economic, and/or academic situations. Some of the winners also received cash prizes, which were awarded in recognition of their grade point averages, participation in extracurricular activities, and leadership traits.

“These youngsters will go far, it is our duty to support and motivate them from the beginning,” Quiñones-Alfonso said. “So for six years, we have conducted this award ceremony that represents the University’s commitment to emphasize the value of education as a key element in our society.”

Dewey University’s 10 educational centers pick schools in their respective communities and work with the graduation committee to select the outstanding students.
