Pawa Dominicana launches flight operations in P.R.

Pawa Dominicana officially launched its air service between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico this week, representing an increase in its footprint throughout the Caribbean, company officials said this week.
Pawa will offer flights to Santo Domingo on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday on aircraft with an average capacity of 160 passengers each. The itinerary includes a flight that will leave San Juan at 7:50 a.m. and arrive in Santo Domingo at 8:45 a.m. The return flight from Santo Domingo to Puerto Rico will be at 6 p.m. These flights will allow connections to the rest of the Caribbean, company executives said.
“We know the strong bonds of Caribbean brotherhood that unite Puerto Rico with the Dominican Republic and Cuba, so we’re proud to be a new alternative to increase not only the connection between these three destinations, but among the various Caribbean islands,” said Pawa Dominicana Chair Luis Ramírez.
“Pawa offers a different experience to travelers from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean because we know their tastes and culture. A service that from the beginning of our operations, has been characterized by providing the widest variety of ticket sales channels, the best passengers care, the typical Dominican warmth on board, and a punctuality rate that in average has exceeded 93 percent,” he said.
Pawa’s schedules are designed for quick connections to destinations like Curacao, St. Martin, Antigua, Port au Prince, Aruba and Havana. In the case of Cuba, Pawa said it represents an average savings of three hours in travel time through a lay-over at the Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, where it’s Caribbean hub is located.
Following the start of flights to San Juan, Pawa will begin service to Miami in November and by 2017, it will launch flights to New York, Ramírez said. Direct flights from San Juan to Punta Cana are also in the works for the near future.
