Doral Bank’s “dhogares” institutional program garnered the American Bankers Association affordable housing award during the organization’s annual convention held earlier this month in California

The ABA Community Awards commends the work of banks for initiatives or programs that demonstrate exceptional results in their society. Doral was the only Puerto Rican bank to be recognized this year.

“We’re happy to honor Doral Bank for this exceptional effort, one that has such a significant impact on its community,” said ABA President Frank Keating.

Doral’s “dhogares” program, which is one of eight bank community initiatives, aims to help families going through tough financial situations and provides homes to families in extreme difficulties.

Since 2007, “dhogares” has donated 17 homes helping 21 families islandwide, and has helped more than 30,000 families keep their homes. Furthermore, in partnership with municipalities and other organizations, Doral has rehabilitated and donated houses in Bayamón, Trujillo Alto, Arecibo, Dorado, Cayey, Caguas, Guayama, Humacao, Aguadilla, among others.

“We are honored for this ABA recognition, which we received thanks to the work and passion of Doral and to our CEO’s vision of making a difference in our communities,” said Lucienne Gigante, senior vice president of marketing, public relations and community at Doral.

The ABA evaluated more than 140 nominations divided into affordable housing, economic development, small business loans, financial education, philanthropy, and volunteer work.

The winner selection was focused on creativity and execution of traditional or innovative programs and results demonstrated in measurable terms.
