Eagle’s plane-pulling charity event raises $48K for muscular dystrophy
One of the competing teams pulls the ATR American Eagle aircraft toward the finish line.
Two-dozen companies came together last week to participate in American Eagle’s traditional “Jala Jala” (Pull Pull) charity fundraiser, which this year collected $48,000 to be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The 20-member teams from companies including Allied, Bacardi Corporation, Banco Santander, Bard, Bella International, Biogen, Burger King, Coca Cola PR, Eaton Arecibo, Ponce Law School, First Bank, Ford, Gold’s Gym, Grupo Sonnell, Guaragua Transport, Magic 97.3, Micron Technology, Pall Life, Reliable, S.C. Johnson, Sol Puerto Rico, Subway, Supermercados Econo and American Airlines/American Eagle, accepted the challenge of pulling a 30,000-pound ATR-72 aircraft over a 50-foot stretch. Each company donated $2,000.
Coca Cola, Supermercados Econo, Pall, and Burger King took the first winning spots in the unique competition that took place at the Muñiz Air National Guard Base in Carolina. It is one of several corporate social responsibility events American Airlines and Eagle conduct in benefit of local nonprofits.
“With this event, we make donations as possible for treatment, care and muscular dystrophy research,” said Jorge Ramírez, Eagle’s vice president of administration and human resources. “Our commitment to Puerto Rico and with patients and their families is profound and we thank all the companies that offered their strength and contributed financially to this struggle.”
