Economic Development Summit slated for next week

Members of the government’s economic team, headed by Economic Development and Commerce Secretary José Pérez-Riera, will host the third edition of the Economic Development Summit, Sept. 27 at the Sheraton Convention Center.

Updates of the initiatives begun in prior summits will be on the agenda, as well a progress report on the “Puerto Rico does it Better” integrated promotional that the Gov. Luis Fortuño administration has been implementing to market Puerto Rico as a tourist and investment destination around the world.

“Next week will provide the opportunity for the economic sector to lean firsthand about the progress and where we are with strategic projects, and the creation of mechanisms so they are part of the effort,” Pérez-Riera said.

The Summit will include the participation of various agencies and public corporations not only through participation in the agenda, but also through the many exhibitors that will be part of the event showcasing the various programs and services created by the government to help small- and mid-sized entrepreneurs.

The agencies to be present include the Tourism Company, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Co., Puerto Rico Trade, the Puerto Rico Film Industry, the Economic Development Bank, the Government Development Bank, the Planning Board, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, www.pr.gov and the Integrated Permits System, among others.

In addition, the exhibitors’ area will have representation from the private sector, which will have the chance to present products and services they offer and have been the result of their participation in collaborative efforts with government programs.

Fortuño will be the keynote speaker during the luncheon, organizers said.
