Education, One Stop pact strengthens aviation workforce
The Department of Education and the One Stop Career Center renewed an agreement to expand opportunities for students pursuing technical degrees in Puerto Rico’s aviation industry.
The initiative is intended to strengthen occupational education and create a pipeline of skilled workers for a sector identified as vital to the island’s economic development.
“This agreement is part of the Avanzando 2 Good Jobs (A2GJ) initiative, a program aimed at strengthening young people’s skills and guiding them toward job placement in high-impact economic areas,” said One Stop Executive Director Carmen Cosme-Pitre.
“With this partnership, we contribute to strengthening occupational education and opening doors to effective employability, ensuring that students have the technical and professional skills necessary to integrate into the aviation industry,” she said.
The agreement will support students at the Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute (PRAMI) by providing case management, employability training and job placement services. Students will also receive help with uniforms, materials, transportation and the cost of exams required by the Federal Aviation Administration to become licensed aircraft mechanics.
The exams, now fully available on the island, are expected to improve local workforce readiness.
“Our goal is to prepare this generation to contribute to the island’s economic development and find a solid path to their professional future in these industries,” said Education Secretary Eliezer Ramos-Parés.
The collaboration also calls for PRAMI staff to participate in A2GJ’s Aerospace Sector Advisory Committee, bringing industry expertise into program planning.
