Emovis deploys new toll monitoring system for Teodoro Moscoso Bridge
Emovis, a part of Abertis Mobility Services, has implemented a new roadside solution for Puerto Rico’s Teodoro Moscoso Bridge, operated by Autopistas Metropolitanas de Puerto Rico (Metropistas), to “maximize toll compliance through improved vehicle
detection and identification systems,” the company said.
This upgrade, which processes more than 8 million transactions annually, included the expansion of two additional lanes and the refurbishment of four existing lanes. Advanced cameras equipped with external illuminators capable of reading dirty license plates even at night have been installed as part of this upgrade.
Emovis has relocated all previously installed lane equipment, minimizing the risk of damage from vehicles. The legacy setup, which supported four lanes, involved more than 10 networking cabinets and equipment servers. Now, all the equipment is consolidated into a single server rack, according to Emovis.
Metropistas has been collaborating with Abertis since 2011 through a public-private partnership and operates several major highways across Puerto Rico.
Emovis has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the implementation of 10 electronic toll gates along highways PR-22 and PR-5, the installation of five scaffolds on PR-22, and an additional one on PR-5, the conversion of two gantries into one dynamic toll lane on PR-22, and the installation of more than 120 traffic cameras on the gantries along PR-22 and PR-5.

The Teodoro Moscoso Bridge, which is the island’s most costly toll road, spans the San José Lagoon, linking Carolina and San Juan.
