The iconic Normandie Hotel, located at the entrance of the San Juan islet, needs an investment of some $20 million to be brought back to its former glory, Tourism Co. Executive Director José Izquierdo said during confirmation hearings on Tuesday.
The Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association said this week it is “pleased” with the results of the final report for House Resolution 129 that ordered a study on the causes for casino closings on the island, which pointed to illegal slot machines as the cause.
Citing a study that concluded that legalizing slots in places other than casinos could represent multimillion losses for the industry and the government, as well as the elimination of hundreds of jobs, the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association blasted Tuesday a proposal by Rep. Rafael “Tatito” Hernández to get those machines online.
