USDA extends deadline for Value-Added Producer grants

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program announced recently it has extended the deadline to apply for Value-Added Producer Grants to April 8, said José Otero-García, agency state director for Puerto Rico.
These grants assist agricultural producers increase the value of an agricultural commodity in the processing or marketing stage. The extension was granted to incorporate the provision for scoring priority to applications when awarding grants to eligible independent producers to include Veteran Farmers or Ranchers.
The two-week extension also allows those who have already submitted funding applications to revise their proposals if the new farm bill’s addition is applicable to their proposal. The maximum grant amount is $75,000 for planning grants and $200,000 for working capital grants.
