AT&T extends Voice Over LTE service to P.R., USVI

AT&T announced Thursday the launching of its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, offering HD Voice that enables customers to experience crystal clear conversations while simultaneously surfing the Web at 4G LTE speeds.
The wireless carrier first began rolling out the service in May 2014, and continued expanding on a market-by-market basis. Initially, the service was enabled only on Samsung devices, but it has since integrated a variety of smartphones, including the Apple iPhone and LG handsets.
VoLTE and HD Voice from AT&T provide better overall audio quality. The use of wideband audio for HD Voice, which expands the frequency range of audio signals, enables more natural sounding voice.
There is also a noise cancellation feature that allows customers using HD Voice to hear reduced background noise compared to standard voice calls, helping to make conversations clearer.
To experience HD Voice, both callers will need to be in an AT&T HD Voice coverage area using an AT&T HD voice-capable device with HD Voice set up on their AT&T account. There is no extra charge for HD Voice service, the company said.
“As demand for speed, connectivity and enhanced wireless services grows, the launch of HD Voice on our 4G LTE network is just another way we’re working to provide our customers with enhanced services,” AT&T said in a statement released Thurday.
