Fajardo, San Juan y Punta Cana brillan como destinos náuticos de moda
Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic have emerged as leading destinations in Getmyboat’s new informe on Latin America’s top boating hotspots.
While Cabo San Lucas in Mexico ranked first and Cancún second, Fajardo in Puerto Rico ranked third, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic sixth and San Juan in Puerto Rico eighth, according to the analysis based on booking and demand data from the world’s largest boat rental marketplace.
Fajardo was highlighted for its calm Caribbean waters, access to offshore cays and the island-municipalities of Vieques and Culebra, and its active charter community. The coastal town has more than 100 vessel listings on the Getmyboat platform, with yachts as the most popular option and an average hourly rate of $356.
The report described Fajardo as a gateway to the town’s bioluminescent bay and snorkeling sites, with itineraries that appeal to locals and visitors seeking short, scenic outings.
San Juan followed in eighth place, recognized for its marina infrastructure, accessibility and historic coastal views. The capital’s boating options include captained tours, fishing trips and sailboat rentals averaging $200 per hour. Its proximity to nearby islands and lively waterfront make it an attractive choice for recreational boaters.
Punta Cana, meanwhile, placed sixth, driven by its long stretches of sandy coastline and its popularity among tourists. The Dominican Republic destination offers more than 200 vessels, mostly catamaran yachts, with an average hourly rate of $203.
Many local resorts include boating and snorkeling excursions — particularly to Saona Island — in their all-inclusive packages.
