FCPR opens 5th cohort for small business incubator

Nelson I. Colón-Tarrats, president of the Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico

The Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico (FCPR) has opened applications for the fifth cohort of its Small Business Incubators and Accelerators Program, which offers training and personalized support to residents across the island seeking to develop and grow their business ideas.

Launched in 2021, the program is subsidized by the Puerto Rico Department of Housing through Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. Since its creation, it has provided business workshops, mentorship and individualized guidance to 147 entrepreneurs throughout Puerto Rico. With the start of the new cycle in October 2025, the foundation aims to assist 40 additional participants.

During its first four cohorts, the program reached 50 municipalities and supported participants ranging in age from 18 to 63. About 72% of them came from low- to moderate-income households, reflecting the program’s focus on empowering vulnerable communities through entrepreneurship.

Applications are open until Oct. 31, 2025, through one of the partner organizations implementing the program: CRÉALOS, operated by the Office for Human Promotion and Development (OPDH) in Arecibo; the Incubadora Solidaria de Mujeres de Islas in Culebra; and the Centro de Microempresas y Tecnologías Agrícolas Sustentables Inc. (CMTAS Yauco Inc.). Applications may also be sent directly by email to the FCPR.

The foundation and its partners guide participants from idea development to the creation of a business plan. They also offer services such as logo design and legal notary assistance to help prepare businesses for launch.

“At the Fundación Comunitaria, we firmly believe in strengthening human capital within the business community so that entrepreneurs continue to grow and generate impact,” said Nelson I. Colón-Tarrats, president of the foundation. “Through this program, we’ve witnessed how hundreds of Puerto Rican entrepreneurs have transformed their ideas into sustainable businesses that contribute to their communities’ well-being.”

The initiative, managed by the FCPR with support from local organizations, continues to expand its reach across Puerto Rico, promoting economic resilience and self-sufficiency. The foundation’s long-term goal is to build a robust ecosystem in which small businesses drive both social and economic development.
