FirstBank offers financial education through nonprofits

Seeking to increase financial knowledge and responsibility within low-income groups or communities through nonprofit organizations, FirstBank has partnered with the American Red Cross, United Way, and One Stop Career to create the Financial Education Program.
The program has offered 21 educational workshops to date, benefiting 283 people across the island looking to achieve financial wellbeing. That education comes as personal consumption expenditures have shown a growing trend in recent years, according to the Puerto Rico Planning Board.
“For the past 68 years, at FirstBank we have contributed to improving the quality of life of the communities we serve,” said FirstBank President Aurelio Alemán.
“We’re aware of their needs, so our aim to participate as partners with these nonprofits, offering them the tools for promoting a healthy economic and financial culture that represents the welfare of the families and communities they serve,” he added.
FirstBank staff from its 49 branches supports the Financial Education Program. Workshops include subjects such as budget management, saving, prevention of financial exploitation, and identity theft, and are targeted to individuals with limited economic resources.
Participants in the Financial Education Program must be nonprofits or public schools. To request workshops, email [email protected].
