At the deed signing for the building were, from left, Atty. Rebeca Guzmán, of Guzmán Serrano & Associates LLC.; Humacao Mayor Marcelo Trujillo; Ginoris López-Lay, executive vice president of FirstBank; and Atty. Rose Guzmán, director of the town of Humacao’s legal division.

Five nonprofits — Casa de la Bondad, Centro de Enseñanza de la Familia, Enactus, JCI (Junior Chamber International) and Proyecto PECES — will benefit from the use of a building that FirstBank recently donated to the town of Humacao through its community reinvestment unit.

The five-story, 215-meter building provides some 5,973 square-feet of space for the organizations to do their work through the Humacao Community Training and Development Center to be instituted there. Participants will benefit from educational and training programs in the areas of health, social services and economic development.

This knowledge will strengthen the skills of the groups, helping them to generate income based on self-sufficiency and the creation of sustainable projects to contribute to the local economy.

“At FirstBank we have a genuine commitment to supporting communities, improving the lives of people with low and moderate incomes,” said Ginoris López-Lay, executive vice president of FirstBank. “The donation of this property to the Municipality of Humacao, allows us to actively contribute to nonprofit organizations, since the use of the Training and Community Development Center is to foster the development of leaders. These leaders have the responsibility to promote community participation in projects related to the common good.”

Meanwhile, Humacao Mayor Marcelo Trujillo said, “My commitment to nonprofit organizations that help and encourage service in our city, is a genuine one. We will be working with the development of this building to make it one of service to our citizens.”
