FirstBank, in partnership with transaction processing company EVERTEC, announced Thursday the start of a campaign to raise funds for nonprofit Ser de Puerto Rico, an organization dedicated to offering a variety of services to special needs children and adults.

The way the permanent campaign works is simple: FirstBank customers using the bank’s network of 115 ATMs islandwide will be able to donate no less than $1 that will go directly to the institution that last year offered its services to 3,100 families.

The ATMs will be programmed to show images of patients participating in therapy sessions, as part of FirstBank’s “Ser de Puerto Rico is what counts” campaign.

“Today FirstBank makes a commitment to SER to help each participant exceed the barriers of disability, and achieve their independence to the maximum of their potential” said FirstBank President Aurelio Alemán.

“For the first time, we’ll establish a donation system through our ATMs in partnership with EVERTEC. This effort will allow more people to identify with SER’s work and learn about other ways to contribute to the patients,” he added.

EVERTEC donated the programming of FirstBank’s ATMs to accept the donations, said Jorge Hernández, first vice president of ATM and POS processing at EVERTEC.

There is no set fundraising goal other than collectinh enough to serve the same number of families reached last year, and more, said Nilda Morales, president of SER de Puerto Rico.

The effort with FirstBank supports several other fundraising campaigns that SER conducts throughout the year, including its annual telethon, said Juan Antonio Larrea, chairman of SER de Puerto Rico.

“This initiative will allow us to continue offering integrated multidisciplinary services and launch innovative rehabilitation service methods for our children and youth with disabilities,” he said.
