FirstBank in alliance with Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico
The complexity and the diversity of the plays require the knowledge of different styles, the creation of new costumes, and the attention to numerous details, from coordination to the tailoring of more than 100 dancers.
To help break the economic dependence cycle of female victims of domestic violence and other socially disadvantaged women, FirstBank awarded a $5,000 donation to Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico (BCPR) to provide training in sewing and work for 34 weeks to two participants of Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos and Hogar Buen Pastor.
“As part of our contribution to the community, FirstBank joined BCPR to offer women who have suffered abuse or the difficult disease of drug addiction the opportunity to learn a trade, and in this way, help them build their self-esteem. Through this experience, these women will acquire the necessary skills to work at home so they can start their own dressmaking shop and/or collaborate with BCPR,” said FirstBank Community Reinvestment Officer Catherine Ríos.

The program’s goal is that the participants gain the necessary tools to enable them to establish their own small business or subsidize their home’s income through self-sufficiency.
“We train the participants in the trade while showing them the beauty of the art of dance and its music. We are very grateful to have the support of FirstBank in this important initiative,” BCPR Executive Director María Teresa de León said.
