Ford reports 37% local sales growth in 1st half of ’11

Ford Motor Company cruised through the first half of 2011, with a reported 37 percent increase in year-over-year vehicle sales in Puerto Rico, at a time when the industry had an overall growth of 1.9 percent, company officials said Thursday.
The automaker sold 4,640 units between January and June, representing 1,252 more units in comparison to the same period in 2010.
“Ford continues to provide the Puerto Rican consumer vehicles accessible to their transportation needs with the latest technology, design and efficiency,” said Waldo Galan, managing director of Ford International Business Development for Puerto Rico, Caribbean and Central America.
Ford’s best-selling cars were the Fiesta, Focus, Escape, Edge and Explorer, he said.
“At Ford Motor Company we are a team working to achieve global leadership in the automotive industry. We work with a clear goal on these concepts and we demonstrate it in the way we conduct our business relations and to the community we belong to and serve with pride,” said Galán.
Globally, Ford racked up $2.4 billion in net income during the second quarter of 2011, a “historic” result for the company.
