Genera PR partners with Electricoop to boost grid reliability, local jobs

As part of the agreement, Electricoop and Genera PR have carried out maintenance, repairs and testing of key relays and transformers at the Palo Seco, Aguirre and Aguirre combined cycle power plants.

Genera PR has signed a collaboration agreement with Electricoop, a Puerto Rican cooperative that provides specialized electrical services, to support maintenance efforts at several power generation facilities on the island.

The partnership covers the maintenance, repair and testing of relays and transformers at the Palo Seco, Aguirre and Aguirre combined cycle power plants. The work is part of Genera PR’s broader strategy to improve generation performance and reduce service interruptions.

“At Genera PR, we firmly believe in the capabilities of local organizations,” said Iván Báez, vice president of public and government affairs. “Collaborations like this one with Electricoop not only strengthen our operations but also drive Puerto Rico’s economic development by promoting technical knowledge and creating job opportunities on the island.”

Electricoop — officially the Cooperative of Professionals in the Electric Industry of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean — was founded in 2019 to expand local participation in energy infrastructure projects.

“We’re excited to collaborate on a project of great importance for strengthening the country’s electric grid,” said Rafael J. López, executive director of Electricoop. “That has always been our purpose: for Electricoop to be recognized as a strategic ally, contributing our talent, knowledge and experience to the reconstruction of Puerto Rico’s energy system.”

Genera PR said the agreement aligns with its ongoing plan to stabilize the island’s power system and prioritize local suppliers.
