Gov’t focuses on women entrepreneurs, grants $3.3M in loans
Gov. Fortuño meets with a group of female entrepreneurs
Local female entrepreneurs got the government’s undivided attention Monday, when Gov. Luis Fortuño met with a small group to “acknowledge the vital role they play in boosting our economy.”
During a meeting with 15 female business owners, who have received some $3.3 million in loans from the Economic Development Bank, Fortuño said the government is “making sure to provide them with support programs to help them meet their goals.”
The women are doing business in farming, services, education, consulting, manufacturing, construction, tourism, health, and nonprofit organizations.
“As we see today, women are assuming leadership roles in every industry and are an essential part of the economic recuperation effort,” Fortuño said. “Their businesses, companies and projects impact all of the island’s sectors and we all benefit for it.”
During the last two years, the EDB has granted 89 loans equivalent to $19.4 million, of which $5.9 million has been assigned to women entrepreneurs. Combined, their businesses have created some 2,100 jobs, the EDB said Monday.
“These women, who have managed to overcome great challenges to become successful entrepreneurs in various sectors, are examples of improvement,” Fortuño concluded.
Those women are lucky as they granted with that huge money for their goals. Hope they will reach their goal into success.
