Governor appoints 3 to Ponce Port Authority board

Gov. Alejandro García-Padilla submitted nominations to the Senate designating three new directors to the Ponce Port Authority, La Fortaleza announced Tuesday.
The governor designated Engineer Lorenzo Dragoni-Rodríguez, Attorney Rafael V. Vasallo-Collazo and Businessman Carlos J. Rovira as members. Dragoni-Rodríguez was named representative, while Vasallo-Collazo and Rovira will represent bonafide residents.
Law 156 of 2013, adopted Dec. 19, 2013, provides that the governor shall appoint as members of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Ponce, two bonafide residents of the island’s southern region and a representative of the public interest.
Dragoni has a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, and has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. He served as CEO and owner of Aireko Construction, a company known for its integrated construction services in the Caribbean and the U.S. until his retirement in 2010.
Meanwhile, Vasallo has a juris doctor degree from the Pontifical Catholic University, and a BA in Political Science and Economics from the University of Boston. He has more than 20 years of experience in the commercial industry and manufacturing. He currently chairs Vassallo International Group, a company dedicated to the manufacturing and distribution of plastic products locally and internationally.
Finally, Rovira has a degree in industrial engineering from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico and a juris doctor degree from the Pontifical Catholic University. Rovira serves as president of Rovira Biscuit Corporation, a local company with more than 82 years of existence in the food industry.
These appointments were made during the legislative recess, so they will assume the responsibilities of their positions immediately.
