Gov’t expands services available via pr.gov

Chief of Staff Miguel Romero details the new services added to the pr.gov website, as several administration officials stand by.

Looking to make it easier for citizens to interact with public agencies, government officials announced Wednesday the addition of six new services pr.gov, expanding the 280 already available through the website that has generated more than 10 million transactions since its launch in 2010.

“In just 33 months there have been more than 10 million online transactions surpassing the expectations we set,” Chief of Staff Miguel Romero said. “This is a step forward in offering users the convenience of making their transactions from the comfort of their own home, without lines, gasoline expenses or wasting time.”

The six new services unveiled Wednesday will help the island’s medical sector, agribusinesses and teachers, as well as the general population expedite their proceedings, he said, while detailing each one.

The Treasury Departement will make available  its new digital stamps and vouchers online, while the Health Department will allow citizens to request verification of licenses (Good Standing) and medical license renewals. Citizens will also be able to check on their pre-eligibility to qualify for the Medicaid and “Mi Salud” programs in less than five minutes.

Meanwhile, active and retired teachers who participate in the Teacher’s Retirement System will be able to request personal loans, check the status of their loans, and update their demographic data.

Another new service will allow citizens to report service interruptions and suspensions to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, as well as blow the whistle, confidentially, on electricity theft.

Finally, the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources has opened up the process of paying for fines and buying registration stickers for boats, while the Agriculture Department will allow farmers to register and request “bona-fide” certificates online.
