Hospital Pavia Santurce graduates first class of medical interns
Hospital Pavia Santurce, part of Metro Pavia Health System, marked a milestone June 7 with the graduation of its first class of medical interns.
The event concluded the hospital’s inaugural Medical Internship Program, launched to support medical education and workforce development in Puerto Rico.
“This first graduating class symbolizes much more than the conclusion of an academic cycle,” said Humberto Pérez-Pola, executive director of Hospital Pavia Santurce. “It represents the beginning of a new era in our hospital, where medical education becomes central to improving health in Puerto Rico.”
The program, led by internist and clinical educator Juan C. Avilés-Guzmán, focused on clinical training and patient-centered care.
“Your dedication and empathy will lead you to save lives and improve the health of many. The world needs you. Congratulations!” Avilés-Guzmán told the graduates.
Interns were recognized for achievements in academics, leadership and empathy.
Carlos García-Rodríguez, the hospital’s medical director, said the program provided ongoing support and mentorship to participants.
Karen Z. Artau-Feliciano, president of Metro Pavia Health System, said the program reflects a broader effort to strengthen Puerto Rico’s health system through medical training.
