Humacao Texaco celebrates 15 years of fuel, service and community

Entrepreneur José Vázquez is recognized during the celebration of his 15th year operating a Texaco-branded station in Humacao.

CPA and entrepreneur José Francisco Vázquez-Berio is marking 15 years operating a Texaco with Techron station in Humacao, a tenure defined by expansion and community-oriented service.

Vázquez took over the business in 2010, when his father-in-law offered him the opportunity to lead its remodeling. Since then, the station has added services including a café, electric vehicle charging stations, a mini-market with fresh goods and pet-friendly areas. It now operates 24 hours and supports 15 direct jobs.

“Texaco with Techron is the best gasoline in the world, and we are proud to represent them in Humacao,” said Vázquez. “Carrying the Texaco name has been key to our positioning as entrepreneurs.”

Vázquez credits the station’s growth to three core principles: brand support, a dedicated staff and a service model focused on customer experience.

“We have customers who come by every morning just for their coffee, even if they don’t need gas,” he said. “We’ve created a space that’s all about service and connection.”

He cited assistance from the Texaco brand as critical to long-term success, including support with branding, marketing and workforce development through the Compromiso training program. He also noted the company’s role in helping maintain operations during Hurricane María and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Texaco has never let us down,” Vázquez said. “We’ve always received immediate support, fuel and the backing needed to operate even during the most difficult times.”

In 2019, the United Retailers Association (CUD, in Spanish) named Vázquez “Retailer of the Year” for his work in the sector.

Looking ahead, he said future plans will focus on safety, technology and customer convenience.

“There are real opportunities in this industry. It’s a good business and an essential service. Without gasoline, the island comes to a halt,” he said. “To new entrepreneurs I say: Don’t be afraid — Puerto Rico needs this kind of leadership.”
