Puerto Rico-based social impact consulting firm Impactivo has been approved for a $14,994 award by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (known as PCORI) to support a project on Hispanic Communities Reducing Complications around Pregnancy and Childbirth.

Impactivo, the first local firm to be awarded by PCORI since it was established in 2010, will use the funds provided through the Pipeline to Proposal Awards program to build a partnership of individuals and groups who share a desire to advance patient-centered outcomes research focused on the prevention of preterm birth and other pregnancy complications.

“A healthy birth is the cornerstone to a healthy childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Preterm birth makes infants susceptible to developmental delays and health problems. Ensuring preconception, prenatal, and postpartum health is therefore fundamental to the development of a healthier society,” said María F. Levis-Peralta, founder of Impactivo Consulting.

With the awarded funds, Impactivo’s Tier I Pipeline to Proposal team will recruit, orient, and build the capacity of patients, researchers, and stakeholders to engage in Patient Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR) for improved maternal child health (MCH), develop an online community for patients, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss MCH issues and topics, and develop a governance structure for PCOR to be carried out.

“The Pipeline to Proposal Awards program is a manifestation of PCORI’s commitment to the meaningful involvement of patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other stakeholders in all our research endeavors,” said Jean Slutsky, PCORI’s chief engagement and dissemination officer.

“It provides support to those who may not otherwise have an opportunity to contribute to the field of comparative effectiveness research. We’re pleased to follow the awardees’ progress as they develop partnerships and begin to form research questions,” she said.
