Institute of Statistics takes over Data.PR.gov initiative
The Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics has begun taking over the job of maintaining and developing the government’s technology initiative to open and disclose its data known as Data.PR.gov.
The initiative was launched in 2014 under the now-defunct Chief Information Officer’s wing. But once the office was eliminated earlier this year, the Statistics Institute stepped in to give it continuity, along with taking over the task of coordinating surveys with Connect Puerto Rico to measure Internet usage in Puerto Rico.
“The Institute will initiate a process to ensure the quality of the data contained in Data.PR.gov, taking advantage of the advances that had already been achieved, and we’ll give continuity to this important initiative of openness and data transparency,” said Mario Marazzi-Santiago, executive director of the Statistics Institute.
“In addition, in the coming months, the Institute will reconfigure the tool to facilitate the search for data and will begin to develop the tool, in collaboration with government agencies,” he said.
“Openness, transparency and accessibility of data generates great benefits for our socio-economic, governmental and technological development. Through this initiative, we demonstrate that our government can give continuity to good initiatives and can develop them to their full capacity,” he said.
