iPhone 4S arrives to local AT&T, Sprint stores Friday

The iPhone 4S will be available at AT&T Puerto Rico simultaneously with the launching at stateside Apple stores.

AT&T Puerto Rico and Sprint will be receiving the first shipment of iPhone 4S devices, in black and white casings, this Friday, when both carriers will open their stores at 8 a.m. for customers who did not pre-order Apple’s latest smartphone, company officials announced Tuesday.

AT&T customers who pre-ordered should avoid stores on Friday; their device is already in process to ship to their billing address; it is not being held at local area stores.

“We know how excited Puerto Rico is for iPhone 4S,” said José Juan Dávila, general manager for AT&T Puerto Rico, who will be on hand at the carrier’s Guaynabo headquarters to greet customers. “Our Puerto

Rico area employees have been working hard to ensure we provide only the best experience in our stores, backed by the only network that will deliver download speeds twice as fast, and let you talk and surf at the same time.”

“We can’t wait to help as many customers as we possibly can — and we’ll have plenty of iPhones on our shelves ready to go,” he said.

The iPhone 4S, launched last week a day prior to Apple co-founder Steve Job’s death, will be available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, with prices starting at $199.99. Voice and data plans, as well as a 2-year contract, are required.

The company said it sold more than 1 million iPhone 4S units during the 24 hours of the pre-sale last week, breaking previous single day pre-order record of 600,000 held by iPhone 4. The handset’s local availability is parallel to the device’s launching at all 245 Apple retail stores stateside.

This is the first time AT&T will not have exclusivity over the iPhone in Puerto Rico, as Sprint will be jumping into the fray.

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse, said the company’s “unlimited data plans are the perfect fit for iPhone customers. Sprint’s unlimited data plans provide more value than metered plans from other carriers. Our customers can take advantage of the innovative features of iPhone without worrying about overage charges or surprises on their bill.”
