Looking to encourage the practice of couponing on the island, Kraft Foods Group Puerto Rico LLC announced Wednesday its plans to launch a series of regular manufacturers discount coupon offers to help consumers save money.

The “Kuponea” coupons series will offer consumer discounts on Kraft Foods brands, including: Kraft cheese, Oscar Mayer, Velveeta, Cheez Whiz, Philadelphia, Capri-Sun, Planters, Lunchables, and other brands.

The coupons will be published on a quarterly basis and inserted in Puerto Rico’s major newspapers. They will also be available on the company’s Facebook page (facebook/kuponeapr) to download and print, company officials said.

“These days, consumers want more ways to save and sometimes they refrain from buying their favorite brands. Through ‘Kuponea,’ we’re providing relief to our consumers so they can continue enjoying their favorite Kraft products in addition to encouraging others to try them,” said Michelle Vázquez, of Kraft Foods Group Puerto Rico LLC.

During the protracted economic recession, Puerto Rico consumers have begun to actively use manufacturers coupons at the register. This year’s Consumer X-Ray study, commissioned by the Marketing, Industry and Food Distribution Chamber confirmed that 22 percent of consumers use coupons in Puerto Rico, representing a 6 percentage-point leap in comparison to 2012. Furthermore, more than half of consumers, or 52 percent, said they decide where to shop based on the store’s coupon acceptance policy.

Meanwhile, U.S. consumers redeemed some $4.6 billion in coupons last year, a 12.2 percent increase over the previous year, according to a study conducted by Gaither.
