A new Krispy Kreme shop will open in Carolina across from the UPR Regional Hospital on Route 3, this Saturday.

Krispy Kreme will celebrate the opening of its 600th international store and its 7th in Puerto Rico this weekend in Carolina. The store is set to open May 17 by local franchise partner Caribbean Glaze Corp., company officials said Wednesday.

The 2,800 square-foot freestanding shop will feature Krispy Kreme’s iconic “Hot Light” and “Doughnut Theatre,” which allow customers to see how the donuts are made from start to finish.

Grand opening activities will include commemorative t-shirts for the first 600 fans in line, family friendly activities and live music on grand opening day, officials said.

“We are delighted to finally open a store in Carolina,” said John Cook, CEO and President of Caribbean Glaze. “It is our pleasure to bring the joy of Krispy Kreme closer to the east side, with an amazing new store design and our signature quality products.”

Caribbean Glaze opened its first Krispy Kreme location in 2008 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. It currently operates additional locations in Guaynabo, Dorado, Ponce, Mayagüez and Hatillo.

“We look forward to commemorating this milestone with Caribbean Glaze, its outstanding management team, and our many doughnut and coffee fans throughout Puerto Rico,” said Dan Beem, Krispy Kreme president for International operations.

“We are excited to see our international franchise business growing through deeper relationships with our franchise partners. All are signs of a bright future for our brand and our global partners,” he said.

The Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut can be found in more than 800 retail shops in more than 20 countries in North America, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.
