Kwikset abre su primera tienda global en Puerto Rico

La nueva tienda Kwikset está ubicada en el pasillo principal de Plaza Las Américas, en San Juan.

Kwikset, a North American manufacturer of residential locks and access systems, has opened its first physical store in the world at Plaza Las Américas in San Juan — a move company officials described as both a business milestone and a bet on Puerto Rico’s expanding home security market.

“Puerto Rico is a key tourist destination with remarkable growth in rental properties, which creates a high need for contemporary security systems,” said Christian Bermúdez, commercial manager for Kwikset Puerto Rico.

“With our arrival, we aim to lead the category of locks and security solutions, positioning ourselves as a benchmark in technological innovation and home security,” he said.

The company invested about $2 million in the project, covering infrastructure, marketing and distribution. The store’s opening is expected to create more than 20 direct and indirect jobs, officials said.

Visitors will be able to test the company’s latest products through live demonstrations and educational workshops on home security. The location will serve as a model for future retail expansion, as Kwikset plans to open additional stores elsewhere on the island.

The company is also introducing its line of Wi-Fi-enabled smart locks that work without a hub and include Smart-Key Security technology, which allows users to rekey locks without replacing them. The devices are compatible with Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings systems. The locks also include Microban’s antimicrobial coating, according to the company.

Founded in 1946 and based in Lake Forest, California, Kwikset is part of ASSA Abloy Americas Residential Inc., one of the world’s largest lock and security manufacturers.

Bermúdez said the company’s local presence will extend beyond sales, with plans to support beach cleanups, sustainability efforts and public education on safety.

“We want to be an active part of the community, promoting education on recycling and sustainability, as well as knowledge about security,” he said.
