Telecommunications provider Claro announced Tuesday the availability of broadband speeds of up to 150 megabits per second to a group of homes in the San Juan metropolitan areas selected to participate in the initial phase of the project.

As part of its new offering, Claro is also integrating speeds of 75, 80, 100, and 125Mbps, so customers can choose the speed that meets their connectivity needs.

The initial deployment covers residential areas including Finca Helena and Ciudad Jardín, as well as high-rises Quantum, Atlantis, Torre Cibeles, Ciudadela, Aqualina, and Casa Maggiore, among others. Prospectively, the service will be expanded to more places and buildings on the island, company President Enrique Ortiz de Montellano said Tuesday.

“Claro continues to set the pace when it comes to Internet connectivity in Puerto Rico. We are the only company able to deliver a true and ultramodern digital highway to homes, providing easy access to all services that require high bandwidth and stability,” he said. “Today [Tuesday], several sectors become the starting platform of what will be widely deployed throughout the island.”

The new service can be bundled with telephone and television services, to maximize savings, the company executive noted.

“It is also important to emphasize that our pricing proposal is the most attractive in the market because we want to provide broadband access to continue promoting the island’s economic development,” he said.

Carrier launches ‘Redacción Digital Claro’
In related news, on Monday, the carrier announced a partnership with WKAQ 580 radio to launch “Redacción Digital Claro,” a new service that will give access to the latest news across multiple multimedia platforms.

Information includes live reports, interviews, photo galleries, video blogs, special reports, as well as traffic and technology reports. The format will allow listeners to participate in the discussion, polls and surveys. “Redacción Digital Claro” will be available via wkaq580.univision.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“The growth of broadband has exponentially impacted the media industry. People seek to connect to news events at all times and in all places, and this new news medium developed by WKAQ perfectly integrates just that, connectivity, mobility and immediacy,” Ortiz de Montellano said.
