Liberty Cablevision increases broadband speeds to 30 Mbps

Naji Khoury, executive director of Liberty Cablevision.

Luquillo-based Liberty Cablevision announced Tuesday the arrival of broadband download speeds of between 20 and 30 megabits per second through its upgraded DOCSIS 3.0 network. Internet clients can expect “more potent, stable and reliable” connections, company officials said.

“The increase in speed is the result of the investment in our network, which today is the most modern of Puerto Rico. Our Internet capability is not only fast, but offers a reliable service at sustained speeds, Naji Khoury, executive director of Liberty.

The network investment amount was not disclosed.

Internet usage habits have changed and continue to change, although Puerto Rico’s digital divide is significant, with the broadband penetration rate at only 31 percent. Liberty, which serves more than 220,000 customers along the island’s north, east and central areas, has seen a 93 percent increase in bandwidth from 2010 to 2011, and the average volume of data downloaded by customers has doubled, Khoury said.

“That’s why we continue to innovate to deliver what the market is requiring,” he said.

Through the increase in speeds, new and existing clients will be able to download movies and music without limit. The experience for gamers will also be superior with the addition of 2 Mbps of upload speeds.

“We are constantly seeking to offer our customers the latest technology for both cable and Internet, as well as digital telephony,” he said. “Our network gives us the ability to continue to increase our speeds sooner.”

The availability of faster download speeds will also benefit the corporate sector, which now have alternatives to manage day-to-day needs such as sending and receiving heavy files, billing or providing Wi-Fi connections to their own clients.

Wow….thats 20/2 speed with unlimited data usage……thats a big thumbs up for Liberty from me….& then compare this with Onelink…who have 4/.5 speed with 40GB data cap….& its been same from 2007 onward ie the speed never increased from 2007…plus the cap of 2007 of 40GB is still the same going into 2012. LOL Onelink…no wonder you are losing your customer base.
