Liberty Foundation donates $510K to nonprofits in Puerto Rico, USVI

Yadira Valdivia, executive director of the Liberty Foundation, speaks during the organization’s 28th annual Golf Invitational Tournament in Río Grande.

Liberty Foundation announced a $510,000 donation benefiting 36 nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands during its 28th annual Golf Invitational Tournament.

Presented under the theme “Every swing counts,” the contribution reflects the foundation’s ongoing support for underserved communities through grants and volunteer efforts.

Giovanna Ramírez de Arellano, acting president of Liberty Foundation, said the theme underscores the cumulative impact behind the fundraising effort.

“We chose every swing counts as this year’s theme because every donation counts. There are no small contributions. Every little bit has empowered us to do a lot of good for our communities,” she said. “Year after year, we have seen what a big difference every contribution makes, and how together we make a significant impact on the lives of underserved communities.”

Of the 36 organizations supported this year, 29 operate in Puerto Rico. Their work spans education, child welfare, science and technology, community development, domestic violence prevention, youth programming, cultural initiatives and environmental conservation.

The remaining seven groups are based in the USVI and focus on youth services, family support, skills development, social services and environmental stewardship.

The donation was presented during the Puerto Rican Swing Dinner held in Río Grande as part of the tournament, which brought together sponsors, collaborators and nonprofit representatives.

Yadira Valdivia, executive director of Liberty Foundation, said many organizations have struggled with funding constraints this year.

“For the nonprofit sector, 2025 has been especially tough. From a drop in the funds raised through their own initiatives to the partial or even total loss of government support, many organizations have been pushed to their limits,” she said.

“Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, these organizations can keep opening doors and creating opportunities in the areas of education, social well-being and health, art and environmental protection,” she added.

Liberty Foundation and Liberty Communications have supported community organizations since 1996, donating more than $8 million to nearly 100 nonprofits in Puerto Rico and the USVI.
