Liberty Puerto Rico celebrated the 20th anniversary of its traditional Liberty Golf Invitational Tournament with a historic donation of $330,000 to 12 community organizations on the island.

The donation was presented Nov. 17 during the tournament’s awards presentation gala, held at Dorado Beach Plantation’s The Watermill in Dorado.

The 12 organizations that received donations this year were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, Casa de Niños Manuel Fernández Juncos, Centro Espibi in Mayagüez, Centros Sor Isolina Ferré, Hogar Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús in Arecibo, Niños de Nueva Esperanza in Toa Baja’s Sabana Seca sector, Para la Naturaleza, PR4PR, the Puerto Rico JazzFest Scholarship Fund, Puertorreal, the San Juan Children’s Choir and the Universidad del Turabo Scholarship Fund.

“We’re very proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this event, which has raised more than $2.1 million and helped more than 15 community organizations in Puerto Rico throughout its history,” said Naji Khoury, president of Liberty Puerto Rico.

“This is a great achievement considering the current economic state the island is going through,” he said. “The support of our friends and partners has been a key factor to ensure that these organizations can continue offering their services.”

The Liberty Golf Invitational Tournament is one of Liberty’s most important community events. The telecommunications company has been raising funds for community organizations in Puerto Rico since 1996, when it donated approximately $19,000 to the Hogar San José in Luquillo.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility program, this tournament has provided an essential aid to a group of community organizations that do a great job with very few resources at their disposal,” said Gabriel Palerm, vice president of sales, marketing and media of Liberty Puerto Rico. “Some of these entities operate with public funds, which have been cut significantly because of the economic crisis.”
