LMM Airport officials unveil new $55M Terminal C

Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport executives and government officials inaugurated Thursday the recently renovated, 87,000 square-foot, $55 million renovation of Terminal C.
The overhaul includes the renovation of 10 boarding bridges for domestic and international flights, a new and modernized commercial offer, installation of terrazzo floors, design of higher ceilings and the acquisition and better distribution of new airport seats.
“Over the last few years we have experienced an increase of passengers. These upgrades were done to address the needs of modern travelers, which includes more flights, new destinations, and an upgraded commercial offer. We’re very pleased with this state-of-the-art terminal,” said Aerostar Airport Holdings’ Chief Executive Officer, Agustín Arellano after completing a tour through the area along with Acting Gov. Víctor Suárez, Ports Authority Executive Director Ingrid Colberg, Carolina Mayor José Aponte-Dalmau and other government officials.
Volaris, Copa, Avianca, Condor, Norwegian, Liat, Air Antilles, Intercaribbean and American Airlines recently moved into the newly renovated terminal.
During the tour, Arellano announced the start of the construction of a new Federal Inspection Service (FIS) area in Terminal A, to be used by Customs and Border Protection, at a cost of $4 million. It is expected to begin operation in September.
This FIS will span 30,000 square feet and will offer enough space to process up to 400 passengers per hour. It will have 18 service lanes and two dedicated lanes for members of the program Global Entry.
“This new FIS will ease the process for passengers arriving into the United States now that we will have an additional facility. It will reduce the turnaround aircraft time and will give us the opportunity to increase our operations,” Arellano said.
“The new Terminal A FIS facility will result in making the connection process much more seamless for JetBlue’s customers in San Juan. As Puerto Rico’s largest airline, we’re committed to continually enhance travel for customers on the island, and the new facility will do just that,” said Rob Land, senior vice president of government affairs and associate general counsel for JetBlue.
