LMM airport sees 6.8% rise in YTD traffic despite June slowdown
Passenger traffic at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport increased 6.8% year-to-date through June, reaching 7,189,182 passengers compared to 6,731,260 during the same period in 2024, according to data released by Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR, in Spanish).
The growth was driven by gains in both domestic and international travel. Domestic traffic rose 5.7% year-over-year, totaling 6,351,148 passengers. International traffic jumped 16%, rising to 838,034 passengers from 722,336 a year earlier.
However, passenger traffic in June 2025 fell 3.3% compared to June 2024. A total of 1,254,753 passengers traveled through the San Juan airport last month, down from 1,297,862 the previous year.
The decline was led by a 5.1% drop in domestic travel, which fell to 1,075,439 passengers in June from 1,133,730 a year ago. Despite this, international traffic continued to grow, increasing 9.2% to 179,314 passengers for the month.
ASUR, which operates the airport through a 60% stake in Aerostar Airport Holdings, noted that the Carolina facility remains Puerto Rico’s main gateway to the U.S. mainland and international destinations.
Muñoz Marín Airport is the first — and so far only — major U.S. airport to complete a public-private partnership under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Pilot Program.
The figures exclude transit and general aviation passengers and reflect activity from June 1 to 30, compared with the same period in 2024.
