L’Oréal Caribe marks Citizen Day with community projects

Employees worked with Caras con Causa in Cataño and at Hacienda La Esperanza, a Para la Naturaleza site in Manatí.

L’Oréal Caribe marked the latest edition of Citizen Day, the company’s global corporate volunteering program, with environmental and community projects in Puerto Rico. The initiative has been held annually since 2010.

Employees worked with Caras con Causa in Cataño and with Para la Naturaleza at Hacienda La Esperanza in Manatí on projects that included gardening, home cleaning, nursery upkeep and arboretum conservation.

Caras con Causa reported the planting of one button mangrove and 120 white mangroves, along with the germination of 600 sea grapes, 600 white mangroves and four “emajaguillas,” a native tree related to Puerto Rico’s national flower tree, the maga.

Volunteers also organized a nursery, cleaned yards and cleared debris from a home. In addition, they delivered a talk on hygiene products with the CeraVe brand that reached 20 older residents.

At Hacienda La Esperanza, Para la Naturaleza said 32 hours of work went into preparing 200 bags for transplanting native tree seedlings, while another 48 hours were spent maintaining 30 timber trees, including Dominican mahogany, coastal ausubo, maga and violet.

“Sustainability is a fundamental and cross-cutting pillar at L’Oréal Caribe, present not only in its products and operations, but also in initiatives like Citizen Day, which channel the commitment and energy of its employees to generate a real impact on the environment and communities,” said Liana Camacho, vice president of markets for L’Oréal.
