LUMA da la bienvenida a más de 80 pasantes para apoyar la transformación del sistema energético

More than 80 interns from eight Puerto Rico universities will work in areas such as engineering, capital programs and smart grid technology, LUMA officials said.

LUMA has launched its third annual summer internship program, bringing on more than 80 university students from eight institutions across Puerto Rico.

Participants come from the University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez and Río Piedras campuses, Caribbean University, Universidad Ana G. Méndez, Interamerican University, Polytechnic University, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and Pontifical Catholic University.

The students will gain hands-on experience in areas related to electric grid modernization, including engineering, capital programs, and smart technologies. Projects will involve work on transmission and distribution systems, microgrids, telecommunications, substations and smart meter implementation. The cohort will also tour LUMA College and engage with industry professionals.

“Our summer internship program reflects our mission to invest in Puerto Rico’s energy future by integrating talented students who bring a fresh perspective and a strong commitment to remaining on the island and contributing to the restoration of the electric system,” said Juan Rodríguez, LUMA’s senior vice president of capital programs.

Since its launch, LUMA’s internship initiative has benefitted more than 300 students. It forms part of broader partnerships with local universities to support talent development and retention.

The company sees the program as essential to preparing the next generation of professionals who will help transform and sustain Puerto Rico’s energy infrastructure.
