Marazzi named to International Statistical Institute

Puerto Rico Statistics Institute Executive Director Mario Marazzi-Santiago was recently elected member of the International Statistical Institute, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that has had consultative status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 1949.
The institution, established in 1885, brings together the world’s statisticians and is one of the oldest scientific societies still active. The only way an individual can be a member of this select group is if elected, with endorsement from at least three active Institute members.
For his induction, Marazzi got the support from Luis R. Pericchi, an international expert in Bayesian statistics, Pilar Guzmán, past president of the National Statistics Institute of Spain and Irena Krizman, Director of the National Institute of Statistics of Slovenia.
The ISI is unmatched in its global reach among statisticians and those interested in the field of statistics. A majority of the world’s central bureaus of statistics are represented within the ISI network.
One of the ISI’s main responsibilities is to promote the exchange of experiences, knowledge, discoveries and ideas among statisticians worldwide.
The Puerto Rico Statistics Institute is an autonomous public agency with the task of coordinating and producing government statistics to ensure that data and statistics collection systems, which public policy are based upon, are complete, reliable, fast and universally accessible.
