McConnell Valdés grants 1st scholarship to law student

The McConnell Valdés/Antonio Escudero-Viera Scholarship Program, created by the McConnell Valdés LLC law firm as part of the firm’s 70th anniversary celebration, awarded its first scholarship.
The recipient, Edwin Mojica-Camps, is a third year law student from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law, the law firm announced.
Mojica-Camps graduated from the Petra Mercado Bougart High School in Humacao. He received a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, with honors, from the UPR, Humacao campus.
“We’re immensely pleased to have a young man like Edwin as the first scholarship recipient of the McConnell Valdés/Antonio Escudero-Viera Scholarship Program. His commitment, hard work and focus made him the ideal candidate to receive this award,” said Arturo García-Solá, managing director of McV.
The scholarship, named in honor of Antonio Escudero-Viera, retired capital partner and former managing director of the firm. Escudero-Viera has been an Ad Honorem Professor of the UPR Law School for the past 45 years.
The scholarship aims to provide financial aid to full time UPR Law School students who meet the established eligibility criteria. It is managed by the Puerto Rico Community Foundation and provides up to $5,000 per year to each selected student.
More students from the UPR Law School will have the opportunity to benefit from the program. The application process for the 2017-2018 academic year will begin in April. Information and guidelines are accessible in the Puerto Rico Community Foundation’s sitio web.
“Improving the quality of life of our people and developing initiatives that benefit our community have always been a vital part of who we are. Supporting the education of professionals in the field of law in Puerto Rico is an important component of our commitment to Puerto Rico,” said García Solá.
